Mysteries of Glamour
The art today becomes more and more directed to earning money rather than winning hearts. Nevertheless, as an example of good spiritual treasure there can be stated many professional artists, and one of them is Botagoz Akanayeva.
Her personal creative art exhibition of magnificent and mysterious installations is held in Almaty for the first time. And the exhibition is named appropriately to its content, “Mysteries of Glamour.” The miraculous image of her glaring canvases combines in itself the charm and seriousness of East and the solemnity and splendor of West.
“The Kiss” (2005) installation is implemented in mixed abstract and traditional methods. Meanwhile, the partners express their love to each other, sitting astride the horse, there can be easily noticed the author’s own vision of that ancient time. The canvas focuses on a beloved couple and conveys in details what they wear. On the background it is the nature that is flashy of realistic colors. Akanayeva’s unique style is garish at the next image named after two dancing women “The Dance” (2005). They wear such colorful, live, and beautiful costumes, slightly reminding the viewers about the popular western masquerades. One of the artist’s peculiarities is that she expresses the “obvious” parts of image by three dimension tools, using artistic dough and common items, like buttons and bracelets. The impression of the image is indelible. It seems like two birdlike women dance in their final dance, letting audience know about it by their movements.
Next image called “Wonderful” (2006) is painted in traditional vision frame with the structure of some author’s noticeable ways. A woman is sitting alone on her bed, showing her perfect back. She draws her delicate hand to close the curtain. She judges the audience with an arrogant look, lazily trying to hide her naked body from them. According to traditional Turk hairpins on her long black hair, she is the image of an ancient Kazakh woman, unlike the person on next “Aphrodite” (2005) canvas. The goddess with rough face stayed alone underwater. The picture is carried in tones of cold colors. Lots of cockle-shelves on her apparel let audience know who exactly the woman is.
“Ruhh” installation is also made in the author’s “traditional” way, with lots of different buttons and many-colored oil paints. The Spirit of Ancestor (translation of “Ruhh” from Turk languages) dances in the ancient time, when mammoths still lived on Earth (which are browsing on background).
She made all of her installations in extremely recognizable way. The art exhibition contains its own style, and the displays blend with each other. Even “Peacock – The Symbol of East” (2006) canvas with its ochre colors, harmonically joins all other installations.
Akanayeva is a multi-active artist. She can easily express her vision of the past in own sights. The atmosphere her images make is like an unreal fairy-tale. She mixed both reality and phantasm on the edges, so that an inexperienced audience can easily differentiate what is real, and what is not. The world she created causes certain wish to be there, and feel what she feels when making such canvases.
