Transgression- Exhibit by Galim Madanov & Zauresh Madanova
Galim Madanov & Zauresh Madanova are an intellectual duo and creative team that are working together on new art project for the Soros Center for Contemporary Arts in Almaty.
The new Soros Center moved last summer to its new “posh” location in the Luxor gated housing complex on Lenina Street in Almaty. This is the first personal exhibit in the new location.
I spent a month last spring in Paris hanging out with Galim where he was an artist in residency. We spent a lot of time walking and looking around, and talking about art in Kazakhstan and abroad. I really got to know the man behind the art. He spent a lot of time taking photographs, smoking cigarettes and reflecting on what he was seeing around him.
Many of the images of his new works are different from the works he had displayed in the Kasteev Museum but are consistent with his own unique vision.
His latest series of works has taken a new feeling and contemporary approach to painting that I haven’t yet seen in Almaty. His works explore and reflect the transnational imaginary and the contemporary condition of transience that we live in.

hhmmm. Sounds interesting. Any links to images or photos of his work?
