Inter-Ethnic Violence Repeated?

KZBlog reports that nearly a month ago a group of 30 masked men in Almaty attacked 40 Turkish workers, employees of the Turkish construction company B.N.N. Pegasus. The attackers were allegedly armed with knives and guns, but only 4 men were injured. One assailant was captured and taken into custody by police.

Еven more strange in this story - which looks more like a gangster fight than an interethnic clash (whilst the company officials think those were terrorists) - is that there was no coverage of the incident in the Kazakhstani sources - I learnt about it from KZBlog, who in his turn refers to the Turkish news sources. However, whether it really had happened or not, it’s indeed not the first case of violence between the Turks and Kazakhs. In October 2006, there was a major brawl in Atyrau, KZBlog reminds.
