Astana Circus

Via a friend, my attention is drawn to this video here. It shows the concept study of a massive lightshow for Astana’s 10-year anniversary. It really is worth watching despite the fact that it is what it is: a concept that is not going to be realised. The music is also brilliant. And their plans for the Kazmunaigaz building.

A few things that the creators wanted to share with the neweurasia readers: This plan was really intended to get realised - although the “complicated wind situation in Astana in the end prevented this from happening…”. Right… The team behind this showreel never actually visited Astana and also never received any material from the city administration. Everything was researched online and then built in 3D. Amazing.

The actual anniversary party will take place on July 4 - so everyone can get an impression for themselves what the authorities have in the end decided for in terms of the festivities.

But to be honest, it wouldn’t have surprised me if it had in the end happened exactly like the showreel shows. It’s fairly in line with the grandeur of President Nazarbayev’s pompous Steppe project called Astana.

Update: Be sure to check out Circus of Now’s website.

I’d rather have my taxes go to the English teachers…
