KZBlog reports that Richard Hoagland has been nominated by President Bush to replace John Ordway as Ambassador to Kazakhstan. Hoagland is currently serving in the U.S. Embassy to Turkmenistan and was Ambassador to Tajikistan.

KZBlog reports that nearly a month ago a group of 30 masked men in Almaty attacked 40 Turkish workers, employees of the Turkish construction company B.N.N. Pegasus. The attackers were allegedly armed with knives and guns, but only 4 men were injured. One assailant was captured and taken into custody by police.

The Almaty-based International Center for Journalism MediaNet together with the Soros Foundation in Kazakhstan has announced the results of best weblog contest.
